Unusually Large and Square Shaped Antique Bashir/Beshir Rug from late 19th Century in Red, Brown, Charcoal and Ivory. Turkmenistan rug V21-0403.
Bashir rugs were woven by Ersai Tribes. Ersari Tribe rugs made rugs from Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan and into northern Afghanistan. Beshir weaving is a distinct from Turkoman tribes weaving as they tend to have more all over designs. The foundation of older Beshir, such as this rug, is all wool. It is also noted that some of the Ersari rugs of Northern Afghanistan of Ersari tribes use a mixture of wool and goats hair.
This Beshir rug feature all-over repeating Flowers and Leaf pattern with 5 large Gul/Boteh in the background. Multi tiered borders includes a main border of repeating geometrics and three guard border in beautiful madder red, Charcoal, brown, yellow and ivory.
