Antique Persian Serapi Carpet with Arabesque Detail and Vine-Scroll Border Keivan Woven Arts / Rug / KBE-20, country of origin / type: Iran /Heriz, circa 1910.

Serapi rugs are known as the finest rugs produced in the Heriz region and its surrounding area. The central rich red/orange field of this piece features a cruciform medallion in navy blue, while pink floats freely among a lavish interior embellishment of sinuous vines. Undulating sky blue corner pieces fill out the field with elaborate arabesque detail and a complex 'turtle' vine-scroll border is set against a pale pink ground, providing an elegant yet dramatic frame. Minor vine-scroll borders echo the rust color of the field. Perhaps the most extraordinary quality of this antique Serapi is its square size, in stark contrast to the much larger scale customary for antique Persian Serapis of this kind.
