This antique Persian Sultanabad Mahal rug (circa 1880s) relies heavily on exquisite details as well as large-scale flowers and palmettes. A fine trellis of beautifully colored large and small flowers sprawls across the navy field, pulsating with alternating rhythms in contrasting red, gold, and green. A crisply drawn arabesque and the detail of the palmettes, flowers and serrated leaves imbue the rug with a beautiful articulation of pattern.
