The vibrant reds, blues, greens and ivories that decorate this beautiful antique Kazak carpet (circa 1880) are all representative of 19th century Caucasian weaving. Its geometric design is in line with the finest of Caucasians, while the composition is characterized by a series of various shapes, with a layered medallion resting in the center of the field. The piece is replete with traditionally Caucasian design elements, and tribal motifs appear throughout the carpet, ranging from the checkered outer border elements to the geometric patterns of the inner red and green fields.
