Antique Serapi rugs are known as one of the most decorative rugs produced in the Azerbaijan area and more specifically from Heriz region and its surrounding villages. The central rich burnt red and tomato field features a cruciform medallion in bright navy blue, while green floats freely among a lavish interior embellishment of sinuous vines. Undulating navy blue corner pieces fill out the field with elaborate arabesque detail and a complex 'turtle' vine-scroll border is set against a burnt orange ground, providing an elegant yet dramatic frame. Minor vine-scroll borders echo the rust color of the field.
