Ghoirdes rugs, such as this one, feature architectural motifs found in the 16th and 17th Centuries Ottoman court rugs. This Ghoirdes, with its outstanding drawing and colors, is exemplary among Turkish rugs made in Oushak area. Characterized by a color pallete that consists primarily of soft blue, red, khaki, brown and ivory, this antique Ghoirdes carpet boasts portions that are high in contrast, as well as portions that are softly complementary to one another. Three diamonds stretch throughout the entire field and are surrounded by a khaki field with random tribal elements that decorate the entire background. An outer border of red-orange and a smaller guard of tan and blue decorate this rug with lovely sub-geometric details.
