Crafted in the Azarbijan district of northwest Persia, this superb antique rug (circa 1890) represents the finest of the Serapi/Bakhshaish carpets. With the graphic boldness of its drawing, this exquisite antique carpet has a magical presence that provides ornate designs combined with tribal details and classical Persian themes. Bold and stylized tribal medallions meander through the red field and are flanked by light blue cornices and defining borders. Other colors include orange, taupe, navy blue, ivory, and charcoal.
