Antique Aubusson Tapestry with Golden Column Panels of Irises
This exquisite antique Aubusson tapestry was delicately crafted in France around the middle of the 19th century during the reign of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. The central body is composed of five golden honey-colored column panels filled with an abundance of repeat-patterned irises rendered in ivory tones. The surrounding blue border is framed by dual narrow-banded inner and outer guards and peppered with Frances traditional fleur-de-lis motifs. Highly decorative swept and pierced golden cartouches on all sides are accompanied by open-shell motifs at the corners to create the effect of a fine 18th century gilt frame. Beautiful in design and execution, this Aubusson tapestry brings to ones home the refined elegance of Frances decorative history.
Measures: 4'10 x 8'10.
